What is the Music Hub Investment Programme?

What are Music Hubs?

Music Hubs are partnerships of schools, local authorities, community groups, music organisations, industry and more. They are coordinated by a Hub Lead Organisation.

Music Hubs deliver and support high quality music education for children and young people within a local area, covering every part of England between them.

Music Hubs help to achieve the ambitions of the government’s National Plan for Music Education and our 2020-30 strategic vision, Let’s Create, of ensuring the creativity of all children and young people is valued and given the chance to flourish, no matter who they are, where they go to school, or where they spend their free time.

£101m investment

£101m investment

43 new Hub Lead Organisations will share more than £76m to coordinate music education in every local area through strategic partnerships. They will also receive an additional £25m to invest in new musical instruments, equipment and technology, including instruments for children and young people with special education needs or disabilities.

This investment of more than £101m will help Hubs to deliver music lessons in schools and outside of schools. It will support them to run music ensembles, provide music training for teachers and more.

On behalf of the Department for Education, we’ve appointed the new Hub Lead Organisations that will coordinate a new generation of Music Hubs from September 2024. You can download a list of new Hub Lead Organisations below.

Any organisation is welcome to apply to become the new Hub Lead Organisation for each area. Organisations must apply by midday on Thursday 6 June. We will let organisations know the outcome of their application in July so they are ready to begin their role in September 2024.
